The Fellowship Band also features Brian Blade on drums, Chris Thomas on bass, with Melvin Butler on tenor and soprano saxophone, Jon Cowherd on piano, Jeff Parker on guitar, and Myron Walden at the alto sax and bass clarinet. This celebrated group has three releases (latest being “Season of Changes” on Verve). They have won the hearts of audiences and critics worldwide with their passionate instrumental music. Blade has also performed with Joni Mitchell, Seal, Bill Frisell, and Wayne Shorter. This evening at the Bagdad Theater will begin with a piano performance by composer and Portland State University professor Darrell Grant.
The fastest-growing segment of the homeless community consists of families with children, usually made up of a young, unmarried mother with two or three small children. Many of these young mothers have experienced violence and abuse and most lack basic work skills, access to child care or the income necessary to support their families. Without shelter and basic necessities, many of these women suffer with addiction and are unable to change their way of life, but there is hope.
The Portland Rescue Mission brings hope to hurting men, women and children affected by homelessness, addiction and abuse. Up to 700 hot meals are served to hungry people each day. Up to 150 weary men and women have a dry, safe place to sleep each night. Emergency services like these--and more—are all provided FREE of charge, 365 days a year. In addition to emergency services like food, shelter and 24/7 restroom facilities, Portland Rescue Mission offers a "total life" recovery program that includes addiction counseling, life skills training, emotional healing and spiritual renewal.
These two benefit shows are made possible by the generosity and assistance of Darrell Grant, the Hotel Lucia, The Portland Hilton, and the McMenamins Crystal Ballroom and Bagdad Theaters. Additionally, on November 3rd, McMenamins Ringlers Pub located on the First Floor of the Crystal Ballroom will donate half of all sales to Portland Rescue Mission from 5pm to Close. Minors welcome until 10pm - 10pm to Close 21 and Over only.
For additional information and tickets visit brianblade.com, mcmenamins.com, or ticketmaster.com.
Tickets for Emmylou ($50) and the Fellowship ($25) can also be purchased at the Crystal Ballroom box office.
